Awards and Projects

We have much to celebrate at Appletree Nursery School and Children’s Centre .

Our second Learning Excellence Award was for good practice for our work with boys in reducing the gender gap, ensuring that all our children get the best possible start in education.

We also received the Aawaz Bringing Communities Together Award for our work to support community cohesion.

Elsewhere we’ve become a Leading Parent Partnership Centre, which I hope you’ll agree, reflects our good work with all parents, guardians and carers.

Our healthy eating work has been recognised as we reached the final of Lancashire County Council’s Chairman’s Challenge.

We were  ICAN accreditated in the nursery school and the piloting of the award for the children’s centre. I CAN works to support the development of speech, language and communication skills in all children.

We have successfully piloted Healthy Early Years Settings, an exciting long-term initiative that promotes the link between good health, emotional well being and achievement.

We successfully completed our Curious Minds Enquiry School Project developing the use of Forest School principles and practice to promote speaking and listening. We have obtained a Learning Excellence Awardfor our Woody Wednesday Project and the Children’s Centre has received a Learning Excellence Awardfor their excellent work with the Dad’s Club.

The children are enjoying the Smile for Life project and have already tooth one, two and four of their smile and have almost completed tooth three.

Implementing such initiatives requires a lot of time, effort and determination but we believe the end results – healthy children with a fantastic start to their educational journey – more than justifies the work involved.Other projects in which we are currently engaged are: School Readiness, Welcomm (concerning speech and language), Mini Me project, and Early Language Development Programme.

Our most recent achievement is the Race Equality Mark, which is awarded by Lancashire County Council to schools that reach an agreed standard regarding Race Equality.
