The school year starts in September, and there are three terms in each academic year: the Autumn Term, Spring Term and Summer Term. At the end of each term there is a school holiday – normally 2 weeks at Christmas, 2 weeks at Easter and 6 weeks in the Summer. There is also a holiday in the middle of each term, this is normally for a week. Schools don’t open on bank holidays. Schools are also required to close for 5 days each year for staff training. These training days are called INSET training – this stands for In-Service Training day. We link our staff training to our School Improvement Plans, and also use these days to undertake training such as 1st aid. At Appletree our inset training days tend to be near the beginning of the school year so that children get the benefit of our training for the whole year.
